Transitional objects ‘help children make the emotional transition from dependence to independence’ (see note 1 below). These boxes contain objects referring to emotional transitions in my adult life: the transition from child to adult in No 1; the transition from college to independent practice in No 2; and, in No 3, the transition from clinging on to ideas about possible textile work to letting go of ideas that I am not going to pursue.
The screen prints in No 3 are based on photographs of my late father.
